County of San Joaquin Dept of Public Works IIPP Rev 2020-01-31.docx <br /> Page 59 <br /> A worker trained in first aid and recognizing signs of heat illness shall evaluate <br />the employee to determine if emergency services are required to be called to <br />the location. <br /> <br />2.6.9 Calling Emergency Medical Services <br /> <br />The following steps are implemented to summon emergency services if <br />determined necessary for the treatment of an employee suffering heat illness: <br />When it is determined emergency medical services are needed, any employee <br />shall either use a phone or radio to call for services: <br /> A call is placed to 911: <br /> If there is a belief that the situation is a medical emergency, a call to <br />911 should be made immediately <br /> After calling 911, call the supervisor and advise the supervisor that a <br />call was made to 911 for emergency help <br /> The supervisor will then contact appropriate county staff to advise of <br />the situation and the request for emergency medical aid <br /> If there is doubt about whether the situation is a medical emergency <br />or if the call to 911 does not provide immediate response, a call <br />should be made to the supervisor and the supervisor will assist <br />If the site is not accessible to emergency vehicles, the affected worker shall be <br />transported to an accessible location, in accordance with the follow ing <br />procedures: <br /> Transport the worker in an air conditioned vehicle, if available; <br /> If the worker can sit, have him/her remain in the vehicle; <br /> If the worker cannot sit, have him/her lie in the shade of the <br />vehicle; <br /> Encourage the worker to drink water; <br /> Observe and report condition of worker; <br /> Do not leave the worker unattended. <br />Identify the exact location of the work site for the medical service provider or <br />the dispatch center; <br /> If the worker has been transported to a transfer point, give the location <br />of the point: <br /> Nearest intersection or; <br /> Nearest mile-marker or; <br /> Identifiable monument.
