Prior To Operation
This manual is intended as a general guide for operation since each and every
installation is different based on system and materials being processed, layout, and site.
Safety
Precautions have been taken to ensure that machinery is supplied with all necessary
safety guards, covers, and warning labels. However, since this equipment is often part
of a larger plant process, it is the responsibility of the customer, not Scott Equipment
Company,to ensure that the machinery is safely installed and operated.
Always disconnect and lockout the power before any physical inspection or work is
performed inside or around the near perimeter of the system.
Should one of the safety decals become damaged or unreadable, contact Scott
Equipment immediately for replacement.
Under no circumstances should any attempt be made to override or to not secure the
safety equipment that is supplied on this Turbo Separator, including but not limited to
the bolted door covers.
Also, under no circumstances should any person attempt to put their hand through the
discharge of the machine. If the agitator is in operation, amputation of a limb will occur.
This machine should only be operated by trained personnel. Proper training includes
reading and understanding this manual.
Purpose of System and Definition of SSO
The organics separator is designed to remove inorganic contaminants from source
separated organics (SSO) waste stream and thereby separating the organics for
downstream uses. However due to the inlet opening size of the organic separator as
well as other limitations, the type and quantity of contaminants must be controlled at
the point of generation through a source separation collection program that adopts in
general the following SSO collection guidelines. Items that are allowed and not allowed
in the collection bin are highlighted below however it is understood that compliance
cannot be fully assured. Therefore by definition SSO will contain some of the disallowed
items and the organic separator will be able to process these items subject to the
limitations of the physical dimensions of the machine and the expectation of potential
wear, damage and jams. Other inorganics disallowed include items that easily
81 Page
