Do not walk through puddles, pools,
mud, etc. Avoid, whenever possible, kneeling on the ground, leaning or sitting on equipment or
ground. Do not place monitoring equipment on potentially contaminated surfaces (i.e., ground,
etc.)
• Field crew members should remain aware of potentially dangerous situations (i.e., presence of
strong, irritating or nauseating odors).
• Prevent,to the extent possible, spillage. If a spill occurs, contain liquid if possible.
• Prevent or minimize splashing of contaminated materials.
• The number of personnel and equipment in the work/exclusion zone should be minimized, but
only to the extent consistent with work force requirements of safe Site operations.
• Only personnel trained (Title 8, CCR, Sec. 5192) and authorized are permitted to work or enter
the exclusion zone.
• Personal protective equipment is used as specified and required.
During sampling activities, the following standard safety procedures are employed:
• Sampling equipment is decontaminated before proceeding to each sampling location.
• At the sampling location, sampling equipment is decontaminated after each use.
• Work in less contaminated areas should be conducted first where practical.
• Work upwind of excavations, power equipment, or drilling rig, if possible.
• The minimum number of personnel necessary to achieve the objectives are allowed within 25
feet of the excavating, drilling, or sampling activity.
• If emergency and backup subcontracted personnel are at the Site, they will remain at least 25
feet upwind from the exclusion zone, where practical.
• Unauthorized personnel must remain outside the work/exclusion zone at all times.
9.
