Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan
The Home Depot Store #5857
A Quick Reference Guide (QRG) is provided at the beginning of this Plan. The QRG meets the requirements of
40 CFR 262.262(b) and includes:
• The types/names of hazardous wastes in layman's terms and the hazards associated with each hazardous
waste present at any one time (e.g., toxic paint wastes, spent ignitable solvent, corrosive acid);
• The estimated maximum amount of each hazardous waste that may be present at any one time;
• The identification of any hazardous wastes where exposure would require unique or special treatment by
medical or hospital staff;
• A map of the Site showing where hazardous wastes are generated, accumulated and treated and routes for
accessing these wastes;
• A street map of the Site in relation to surrounding businesses, schools and residential areas to understand
how best to get to the Site and also evacuate citizens and workers;
• The locations of water supply (e.g., fire hydrant and its flow rate);
• The identification of on-site notification systems (e.g., a fire alarm that rings off site, smoke alarms); and
• The name of the emergency coordinator(s) and 7/24 -hour emergency telephone number(s) or, in the case of
a Site where an emergency coordinator is continuously on duty, the emergency telephone number for the
emergency coordinator.
The Home Depot maintains a robust Handling Hazardous Materials Standard Operating Procedure (HHM SOP)
for its Supply Chain locations, which is regularly updated and available electronically to Associates. This
comprehensive program effectively prevents the release of hazardous materials and aggressively protects the
environment. The HHM SOP outlines the measures that The Home Depot will take to contain and clean up spilled
materials. It also outlines Home Depot's third -party contractor programs and responses.
Activities that represent potential hazard from fire, explosion, or release due to hazardous waste storage at the
Site are minimal. Any hazardous waste generated is stored in the 90 -day storage area termed the Handling
Hazardous Materials Automated (HHMA) Central Storage Area (CSA) — located on the west side of the Site
building. A fire or explosion hazard would not be anticipated at the potential concentrations of hazardous waste
constituents present in the waste.
2.2 Current Revision Date and Amendments
According to Title 40 CFR Part 262.250, the Plan must be reviewed and immediately amended when:
• Applicable regulations are revised;
• The Plan fails in an emergency;
• The Site changes — in its design, construction, operation, maintenance, or other circumstances — in a way that
materially increases the potential for fires, explosions, or releases of hazardous waste or hazardous waste
constituents, or changes the response necessary
in an emergency;
• The list of emergency coordinators changes; or,
• The list of emergency equipment changes.
Table 2-1 provides a list of revisions made to the Contingency Plan:
5
