Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan The Home Depot Store #5857 2 Purpose and Scope Site #5857 is registered as a LQG of hazardous waste and has the potential to reach LQG thresholds. Therefore, the Site is required to prepare and maintain a Contingency Plan, This Plan is designed to minimize hazards to human health and the environment from fires, explosions, or any unplanned sudden or non -sudden release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents into air, soil, or surface water. The provisions of this Plan must be carried out immediately whenever there is a fire, explosion, or release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents which could threaten human health and/or the environment. 2.1 Contingency Plan Requirements This Plan is designed to minimize hazards to human health and the environment from fires, explosions or any unplanned sudden or non -sudden release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents to air, soil or surface water. The provisions of this Plan must be carried out immediately whenever there is a fire, explosion or release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents which could threaten human health and/or the environment. As required by 40 CFR 262.250 and 40 CFR 262.260, "A large quantity generator must have a Contingency Plan for the Site. The Contingency Plan must be designed to minimize hazards to human health or the environment from fires, explosions, or any unplanned sudden or non -sudden release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents to air, soil, or surface water." Additionally, in California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22, Division 4.5, Chapter 15 (22 CCR 66265 Article 4), the California Environmental Protection Agency (CaIEPA) incorporates 40 CFR 265 and its appendices. The Plan has been prepared in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations for hazardous waste Contingency Plans (40 CFR 262.261). Understanding and implementing this Plan will ensure that personnel are familiar with the Site's response procedures for fires, explosions, or any unplanned sudden or non -sudden release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents to air, soil or surface water. It will also make them aware of hazardous waste spill prevention and response procedures, as well as related regulatory requirements. This Plan includes: • Contact information (name, address, phone number) for primary and alternate emergency coordinators; • A list of emergency equipment and capabilities; • A figure showing where the equipment is located; • An evacuation plan listing primary and alternate evacuation routes; • Emergency response steps for incidents involving hazardous waste at the Site; • Arrangements with local authorities and distribution of copies of this Plan; • Hazard classifications, emergency action, and evacuation procedures; • Response functions and support organizations (both internal and external resources); • Procedures for amendment of this Plan; and • A description of the required reporting documentation and investigative follow-up for a hazardous waste incident.
