DEUEL VOCATIONAL INSTITUTION <br />No. 157 - OPERATIONAL PROCEDURE - Medical Waste Management Plan <br />1 ••• <br />2. After donning the appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment <br />(PPE) clothing, the designated staff shall proceed to the Biohazard <br />Waste storage area. <br />3. Staff assigned to areas generating Biohazard Waste shall tie and <br />place the small red bags into another red bag and tie (double bag). <br />The Biohazard Waste bags will then be put into an appropriate <br />Biohazard Disposal Container for pickup by the designated staff. <br />4. The contract janitorial services will pick up the biohazard waste in <br />various medical areas throughout the institution as outlined in the <br />memorandum dated June 30, 2010. Biohazard waste containers <br />will be closed and delivered to the disposal shed located adjacent <br />to the Truck Sally -port. If the contract janitorial services is not <br />available, the Search and Escort Officer #3 (S&E 3) will utilize <br />Firehouse inmate workers during second watch. <br />5. The CHSA I or designee shall ensure the placement of the <br />Biohazard Disposal Containers in the disposal shed in a neat and <br />orderly manner. Partially filled Biohazard Disposal Containers shall <br />be placed in front of full containers. <br />6. All Biohazard Disposal Containers shall be ready for pickup by <br />Stericycle, Incorporated on Tuesday afternoon of each week by <br />1200 hours. <br />7. The disposal shed(s) shall always remain locked. A key will be <br />placed on the assigned key group (P12) in Central Control and the <br />Biohazard Waste Contractor shall have a key. <br />8. The cart shall be cleaned after each use to prevent the spread of <br />pathogens. <br />B. The Biohazard Waste Contractor shall pickup the Biohazard Waste <br />Containers from the disposal shed on Tuesday by 16:00 hours. The <br />Biohazard Waste shall be weighed and a weight slip or manifest shall be <br />provided to the institution pursuant to Health and Safety Code, Chapter 6, <br />Section 118010. Manifests will be forwarded to the Medical Associate <br />Budget Analyst who will maintain them for invoicing and auditing <br />purposes. <br />D. Medical Waste Storage Methods <br />2 <br />
