GENERAL EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION <br /> ..9 PAGE 1 <br /> 1.0 BACKGROUND <br /> All non-disposable field equipment must be decontaminated before and after each use at <br /> each sampling location to obtain representative samples and to reduce the possibility of <br /> cross-contamination (i.e., spreading contamination). <br /> 1.1 PURPOSE <br /> This standard operating procedure (SOP) establishes the requirements and procedures for <br /> decontaminating equipment in the field. <br /> 1.2 SCOPE <br /> This SOP applies to decontaminating general non-disposable field equipment. To prevent <br /> contamination of samples, all sampling equipment must be thoroughly cleaned prior to <br /> each use. <br /> 1.3 DEFINITIONS <br /> Alconox: Non-phosphate soap, obtained in powder detergent form and dissolved in <br /> potable water. <br /> Liquinox: Non-phosphate soap, obtained in liquid form for mixing with potable water. <br /> 1.4 REFERENCES <br /> U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). 1992a.
