ITO E RO E K SOP No.026,REV.1
ASSOCIATES,INC INDOOR AIR AND SUB-SLAB SOIL GAS SAMPLING METHODS
PAGE 10
canister models do not have a rotating valve and utilize a switch to flip the canister
open and close (the same basic sample collection process applies to these canisters).
12. Immediately following vacuum pump disconnection, attach the exposed tubing end
to the sample train, tightening the compression fitting no more than 1/8 turn past
finger tight. Open the sample collection valve, recording the sample collection start
time and initial canister vacuum.
13. Photograph each sample location, canister, and surrounding area.
14. Monitor sampling progress periodically. When target sample collection time specified
in the QAPP/FSP has been reached, close the canister valve by turning clockwise until
snug.
15. Record the time and post-sampling pressure reading on the canister pressure valve.
Do not let the vacuum be reduced to zero pressure as this will compromise the
analytic results.
16. Remove the canister from the sample train and replace the brass cap.
17. Follow the leak check procedures described in Section 2.6.
18. Disassemble the sample train, remove sample collection tubing (or cut below surface
if unable to remove) and abandon sub-slab boreholes by filling any remaining voids
in the slab surface with quick-drying Portland cement.
19. Label the canister and its corresponding field data sheet with the sample number.
20. Fill out the rest of the field data sheet and chain-of-custody and document all
information in a field logbook. If applicable, record the laboratory-provided
identification numbers for the canister and regulator (typically included as a sticker
on each device).
21. Daily, upon completion of the sampling activities, review field data sheets, chain-of-
custody forms, and field logbooks in accordance with SOP No. 24-1, Labeling,
Packaging and Shipping of Nonhazardous Samples Attachment A, Quality Control
