Geospte&
consultants
• Landfill Area(Site 39, IAS-3/4, IAS-07 and IAS-16)
• Site 33
1.3 Proposed Groundwater Operable Units
The proposed groundwater operable units for RRI follow the previous area groupings with the
Central Area split into two operable units. In the Central Area the petroleum hydrocarbon UST
817B site is proposed to be kept as a separate operable unit from the rest of the Central Area
which contains chlorinated solvents. The proposed groundwater operable units are as follows:
• Site 4
• Site 49 Central Area
• UST 817B Central Area
• Landfill Area
• Site 3
1.4 Previous Environmental Investigations
Investigations have been completed over the last 40 years to improve the understanding of the
hydrogeology, groundwater quality, and fate and transport of constituents of potential concern
(COPCs) at RRI:
• 89 piezometers and 369 wells were installed and gauged.
• Approximately 370 grab-groundwater samples have been collected.
• 13 stream gauges were installed and monitored by the Navy prior to the property
transfer.
• Approximately 350 wells have been sampled for volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
• Groundwater samples have been collected at RRI for analysis of VOCs, total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), metals,
pesticides, dioxins and furans, herbicides, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) aroclors,
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), radionuclides,per-and polyfluoroalkyl
substances (PFAS), pharmaceuticals and personal care products including DEET and
bisphenol a, general chemistry parameters and biogeochemical indicators.
• Surface water samples have been collected at RRI for analysis of VOCs, TPH, metals,
organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), dioxins and furans, PCBs, PAHs, radionuclides,
and general chemistry parameters.
• Sediment samples have been collected at RRI for analysis of VOCs, PCBs and
general chemistry parameters.
3 The Site 3 Area has also been referred to as the Agriculture Area.
RRI 2024 Groundwater Monitoring Work Plan 3 June 13,2024
