case" conditions. All work shift personal sampling will be conducted in accordance with al-
OSHA or N10SH approved methods and procedures Spec if'c to the substance or physical hazard
being monitored_ In cases where methods are not available from Cal-OSHA or N10SH, another
nationatly recognized industrial hygiene organization, such as the American Conference of
ovemmental Industrial Hygienists (ACOIH), will be consulted for reference. All sampling
equipment will be maintained and calibrated in accordance with accepted methods or the
manufacturer's recommendations. Samples requiring laboratory analysis will be submitted to
qualified laboratories such as those accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Asauciation
(AIHA), Sample preservation, quality control, and chain of custody procedures will be followed
when transfemrrg samples to the lab.
Sampling Results
Sampling results from dfrect feading instruments will be evaluated by a trained safety staff
member. The safety member will develop an exposure estimate based on the results and the
typical exposure time and determine the need for further work shift monitoring. The result from
exposure estimates and actual work shift personal monitoring will, at a rninimurn, be compared to
Cal-OSHA permissible exposure limits (PELs) to determine regulatory compliance. Results will
also be compared to more restrictive standards, such as the ACGIH threshold limit values(TL s)
as a best practice. All sampling results will be documented using field notes, sampling forms,
laboratory reports, and/or electronic databases. Documentation will typically include:
• Work process monitored
■ Employee-partners) monitored
* Frequency of exposure
■ Controls and/or personal protective equipment being used
+ Sampling date/time and duration
Monitoring equipment used in sampling
Sampling results and interpretation will be communicated by safety staff to management at the
location, who are then responsible for notifying affected employees. If the results pertain to an
Cal-OSHA regulated substance, employees will be notifier) according to the procedures set forth
in the applicable regulation. Sampling results will be used to identify areas for additional. more in-
depth study, to sefect hazard controls, and to determine If existing controls are adequate.
Program Review
This industrial hygiene plan will be reviewed periodically by location management in consultation
with Company IH/Safety staff and modified as needed to address changes in control measures,
facilities, matsrials, and processes, or to respond to suspected or identified exposure hazards,
ATTACH LOCATION SAMPLING PLAN
5
