Management and Processing of Reusable Textiles <br /> Guidance Training Document <br /> As an industrial laundry, Vestis Services must comply with various rules and regulations <br /> pertaining to the handling and processing of reusable textiles. <br /> California Health and Safety Code- HSC-25144.6 outlines certain procedures for the <br /> handling and processing of reusable textiles. <br /> Facility personnel must follow the procedures and guidelines to maintain proper <br /> exemption. <br /> The definition provided by the California Health and Safety Code is as follows: <br /> Reusable soiled textile materials means textile items including but not limited to shop <br /> towels, uniforms, gloves and linens and towels which may become soiled with <br /> hazardous waste during commercial or industrial use and are made reusable by <br /> laundering or comparable methods of cleaning. <br /> The materials or the management of the materials are not otherwise regulated by <br /> the United States Environmental Protection Agency pursuant to the federal act. <br /> ➢ The materials are not used to clean up or control a spill or release that is required <br /> to be reported to any state or federal agency. <br /> ➢ No hazardous waste has been added after the materials' original use. <br /> No free liquids, as defined by Section 22-66260.10 of Title 26 of the California <br /> Code of Regulations, are released during transportation or storage of the <br /> materials. <br /> The facility laundering or cleaning the materials maintains records of the date, <br /> type, and quantities by piecework or weight of the materials collected and <br /> laundered. <br /> ➢ The facility laundering or cleaning the materials prepares a contingency plan that <br /> specifies procedures for handling both onsite and offsite emergencies involving <br /> the materials, and employees are trained in the execution of the plan. <br /> ➢ Management procedures are in place to ensure that the reusable soiled textile <br /> materials are managed in accordance with all the requirements specified in <br /> subdivision (b) of the code. <br /> ➢ The waste washwater conveyances and containers are constructed of materials <br /> to ensure that they are impervious under the conditions of use, and are visually <br /> inspected at least twice a year to ensure that waste washwater is not leaking into <br /> the underlying soil.
