Foothill Landfill
Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
Page 25
6.0 Potential Storm Water Pollutant Sources
As a Class III landfill, Foothill accepts nonhazardous solid waste or inert waste. Foothill also
accepts white goods such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units, as well as e-
waste and tires.
Potential storm water pollution sources are those associated with these activities.
6.1 Narrative Descriptions
The following summarizes, in narrative form, the various potential pollutant sources (Table
17).
6.1.1 Areas Having Industrial Processes
The following is a list of industrial processes at the Foothill Landfill:
Landfill: Activities performed in the landfill include the following:
x Vehicle traffic.
x Unloading of waste materials.
x Load checking.
x Earth moving and heavy equipment traffic.
x Segregation of white goods, and e-waste, for offsite recycling.
x Mobile equipment fueling and maintenance.
x Leachate collection and conveyance; and
x Landfill gas collection and conveyance
x Landfill gas condensate collection and conveyance
These activities occur within Drainage Areas B and D as identified on
SWPPP Map 2. Potential pollutants may include potential sediment and
suspended solids, oil and grease, fuel, pesticides, herbicides, metals,
organic material, pathogens, toxic compounds in the trash, and leachate that has come into
contact with waste.
Figure 3 - White wastes
(appliances) and e-waste are
segregated
Figure 5 - Segregated white waste items
are placed and accumulated in covered
bins which are shipped offsite
Figure 2 - Landfill footprint
Figure 4 - Equipment is fueled
with a mobile skid-mounted
diesel tank that is kept in the
active landfill area
