Foothill Landfill
Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan
Page 26
Soil Borrow Areas: Soil is obtained from several areas within the County property for use as
daily cover and other landfill maintenance and development activities. The borrow areas that
are currently active are located within Drainage Areas A, , and F as identified on SWPPP Map
2. Beginning in March 2019, three semi-permanent stockpiles will be created in this area as a
part of the Landfill Module 2B Project. The stockpiles will be stabilized with vegetation and
utilized for landfill’s daily cover needs. Industrial activities include the excavation and
movement of soils, and the operation and fueling of heavy equipment. Equipment is not stored
within these areas and no landfilling activities occur within these drainage areas. Potential
pollutants include sediment, oil & grease, and hydrocarbons from fuel.
Storage Building:The storage building (formally known as
the maintenance building)is located northwest of LF-1 within
Drainage Area D (SWPPP Map 2). Activities performed in
the storage building include some minor repair and
maintenance of equipment, and the storage of equipment
parts, motor oil, hydraulic oil, used oil; and equipment
fueling. A 250-gallon double-walled used oil tank is located
outside of the building adjacent to the building’s east wall.
West of the storage shop is the landfill’s domestic
groundwater well. Potential pollutants from industrial
activity may include potential suspended solids, metals,
hydrocarbons, oil and grease.
Gasoline Fueling Area: Gasoline-powered equipment is fueled at a 1,000-
gallon single wall fuel tank located southwest of the storage building within
Drainage Area D (SWPPP Map 2). There is no containment for the fuel tank
and fueling operation. Potential pollutants include gasoline-associated
hydrocarbons from leaks and spills. This area drains to a large retention basin
that seldom has a discharge to the receiving water. As of January 2018, the
County is planning on placing this tank with a secondary containment
structure.
Figure 9 - Storage building used
for maintenance and repair and
storage of maintenance related
materials
Figure 7 - Borrow Area in
Drainage Area A
Figure 8 - Borrow Area in
Drainage Area C
Figure 6 - Borrow Area in
Drainage Area F
Figure 10 - 1,000-
gallon single wall
gasoline fuel tank
