1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Overview
This Standard Operating Procedure(SOP)provides details on the direct push technology
(DPT) drilling for grab groundwater sampling methodology. The soil boring and
groundwater sampling SOP was prepared to direct field personnel in the methods for
recording soil boring observations, collecting subsurface soil samples, and collecting grab
groundwater samples during Site investigations. The SOP conforms to the California
Department of Water Resources (DWR) Water Well Standards Bulletin Numbers 74-81
and 74-90 (DWR, 1990), United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)
Groundwater Sampling and Monitoring with Direct Push Technologies (USEPA, 2005)
and other pertinent technical publications. Field forms to be used during Site
investigations are provided in attachments.
Included in this SOP are the procedures, equipment needs, field documentation forms,
project planning, and field implementation steps for specific field tasks. Overall, the
SOPS listed below provide general methods and procedures that may be changed due to
variations in field conditions. Such changes will be approved by the project manager and
Port prior to implementation in the field.
i
