o Disinfect all exposed surfaces (including client chairs, armrests, trays, lamps, <br /> machine surfaces, counters, and floors if necessary)using an EPA-registered <br /> disinfectant effective against bloodborne pathogens. <br /> o Allow disinfectant to remain on surfaces for the full manufacturer-specified <br /> contact time. <br /> Glove Use <br /> o Practitioners must wear disposable gloves during the cleaning and disinfection of <br /> any area or equipment potentially contaminated with blood or other potentially <br /> infectious materials (per §119309(d)). <br /> Environmental Controls <br /> o The procedure area is kept free of dust, clutter, and unnecessary items to <br /> facilitate cleaning. <br /> o No eating, drinking, smoking,vaping, or applying makeup is allowed in the <br /> procedure area. <br /> o Clean and soiled instruments must be handled and stored in clearly separated <br /> zones. <br /> 7. Tables—Cleaning and Disinfection Protocol <br /> Tables used in the procedure area (e.g., for setting up supplies, equipment, or instruments) are <br /> considered work surfaces that may come into contact with contaminated materials. These <br /> surfaces must be cleaned and disinfected after each procedure, and before reuse if used for any <br /> other activity. <br /> Before the Procedure <br /> o Inspect the table surface for cleanliness. <br /> o Disinfect the table using an EPA-registered disinfectant if: <br /> ® The table has been used since its last disinfection, or <br /> ® It was used for another activity (e.g., client consultation, supply layout). <br /> o Apply disposable barriers (e.g., dental bibs, barrier film)to the table surface <br /> before placing any sterile or clean items. <br /> After the Procedure <br /> o Carefully remove and discard all barrier coverings into the appropriate waste <br /> container (biohazard if contaminated). <br /> o If visible debris (ink, blood, lotion)is present, clean the table with soap/detergent <br /> and water before disinfecting. <br /> o Disinfect the entire surface of the table using an EPA-registered disinfectant <br /> that is effective against bloodborne pathogens (e.g., [insert brand name and EPA <br /> number]). <br /> 5 <br />
