8. BLAST ROUND CHARGING OPERATIONS <br />Use of the following personal protective equipment is mandatory: <br />8.1.1. <br />Protective Head gear — hard hat <br />8.1.2. <br />Protective Footwear — hard toe boots <br />8.1.3. <br />Protective eye wear -- safety glasses <br />8.2. The following protective equipment may be used, and under certain conditions, supervisors <br />may require their use. <br />8.2.1. <br />Gloves <br />8.2.2. <br />Ear Protection — plugs or muffs <br />8.2.3. <br />Protective clothing <br />8.2.4. <br />Respirators <br />8.2.5. <br />Face Shields <br />8.3. Safety Review Meetings: <br />The blaster -in -charge shall assemble all blast crew personnel to conduct a safety review meeting <br />before explosive loading work begins. The following issues shall be addressed at each safety <br />review meeting. <br />8.3.1. Identify the blaster -in -charge <br />8.3.2. Review personal safety responsibilities <br />8.3.3. Review site specific hazards <br />8.3.4. Review loading plans and procedures <br />8.3.5. Assign work responsibilities <br />8.3.6. Review equipment requirements and safe operation procedures <br />8.3.7. Review emergency and site security procedures <br />8.3.8. Review requirement that open flames or sparks must not occur on the blast <br />site, and that smoking is absolutely prohibited. <br />8.3.9. Confirm that the crew has the proper tools to safely perform loading and site <br />security tasks. Equipment not specifically approved for blasting work shall <br />not be used. Check the following (tool requirements will vary): <br />• Non -sparking loading poles, powder punches, knives, etc. <br />• Blasting machines or non -electric starters <br />• Testing equipment; blasters galvanometers/multimeters <br />• Measuring tapes with non -sparking weights <br />• Warning sirens <br />Page 5 <br />
