Summary of Site Conditions <br /> 2.1. Site Background <br /> LLNL SiW300 is a DOE experimental test facility operated by the Lawrence Livermore <br /> National Security, limited Liability Corporation. 'Ile facility is located in the eastern Allmon <br /> tills about 17 miles Bust of Livermore and 8.5 'Riles southwest of downtown 'I'rary (Figure I). <br /> The site covers I I squaw miles, most of which is in San Joaquin County. The western onexic h <br /> of the site is located in Alameda County. <br /> Site 300 is primarily a high<xpmsives test facility supporting the LLNL weapons pmgmm in <br /> rowarch, developm sq, and testing associated will weapon components. Operations at Site 300 <br /> began in 1955 and include four defrnse program activities: (I) hydrodynamic lesting, (2) charged <br /> particle beam mseurch, LO physical, envlmnmentah and dynamic tasting, and (4) High Explosive <br /> (HE) formulation and Fabrication. No actual fissionable material is used in these hydrodynamic <br /> tests.
