This Close Out Report was <br /> prepared in accordance with Close Out Proredol for NalioncelPriorities Sues (U.S. EPA, 2011), <br /> Although this EPA guidance is milored to the completion ofremMial actions at an entire National <br /> Priorities List (NET) site (i.e., LLNL Site 300 [Otis 1 — 9]) DOE utilizes EPA's completion <br /> criteria and this Clove Out Report to document that the Pastern GSA Subarea U OFthe GSA O I <br /> has <br /> met these criteria, and that remwliation is complete for this subarea. <br /> The GSA Oil is divided into two subareas, We Central GSA and Eastern GSA, based an <br /> differences contaminant source aras e , hydmlmOlogy, and the distribution of envrmnmental <br /> ern or n. because cleanup completion has only heel achieved in the Eastern GSA portion <br /> Of the GSA OU, this Close Out Report discusses only the Eastern GSA Subarea of the OU. <br /> Ongoing remediatian efforts in the Cenral GSA and offer OUs or Sift 300 are presented in the <br /> semi-annual Compliance Monitoring Reports and Five-Year Reviews. <br /> 2. Summary of Site Conditions <br /> 2.1. Site Background <br /> LLNL SiW300 is a DOE experimental test facility operated by the Lawrence Livermore <br /> National Security, limited Liability Corporation. 'Ile facility is located in the eastern Allmon <br /> tills about 17 miles Bust of Livermore and 8.5 'Riles southwest of downtown 'I'rary (Figure I). <br /> The site covers I I squaw miles, most of which is in San Joaquin County. The western onexic h <br /> of the site is located in Alameda County. <br /> Site 300 is primarily a high<xpmsives test facility supporting the LLNL weapons pmgmm in <br /> rowarch, developm sq, and testing associated will weapon components. Operations at Site 300 <br /> began in 1955 and include four defrnse program activities: (I) hydrodynamic lesting, (2) charged <br /> particle beam mseurch, LO physical, envlmnmentah and dynamic tasting, and (4) High Explosive <br /> (HE) formulation and Fabrication. No actual fissionable material is used in these hydrodynamic <br /> tests. Fencing and full-time security guards reslfict access ill Site 300. <br /> During past LLNL Sift JOE operalions, a number of contaminants were released to the <br /> rat Ihmughout Site 300. Site 300 was placed on the NPL in Augosl 1990.
