3.4.5 Electrical
Overhead power lines, electrical wires, electrical fixtures, and buried cables all pose a danger of
shock or electrocution if contacted or severed during Site operations. A safe distance will be
maintained between overhead wires. Electrical equipment used on Site may also pose a hazard to
workers. Whenever possible, low-voltage equipment with ground-fault interrupters and water-
tight, corrosion-resistant connecting cables to minimize this hazard will be used.
No employee shall be permitted to work in the proximity of any part of an electrical power circuit
unless the person is protected against electric shock by de-energizing the circuit and grounding it,
or it has been locked and tagged out. These procedures will be utilized when work has to be
performed on energized equipment. All electrical wiring and equipment shall be intrinsically safe
for use in potentially explosive environments and atmospheres.
Ground fault interrupters shall be used in the absence of properly grounded circuitry or when
portable tools must be used around wet areas. Prior to any intrusive activities at the Site, all utilities
will be identified in the work area and protected from damage.
3.4.6 Slip/Trip/Hit/Fall
Slip/trip/hit/fall injuries are the most frequent of all injuries to workers. They occur for a wide
variety of reasons, but can be minimized by (a) spot check the work area to identify hazards, (b)
establish and utilize a pathway which is most free of slip and trip hazards,(c)beware of trip hazards
such as wet floors, slippery floors, and uneven surfaces or terrain, (d) carry only loads which you
can see over, (e) keep work areas clean and free of clutter, especially in storage rooms and
walkways, (f) communicate hazards to on-Site personnel, (g) secure all loose clothing, ties, and
remove jewelry while around machinery, (h) report and/or remove hazards, and (I) keep a safe
buffer zone between workers using equipment and tools.
3.5 Engineering Controls
The use of engineering controls for the protection of personnel is the first means of mitigation.
This involves the elimination of hazards and the isolation of the workers from hazards. Covering
stockpiled material will separate the workers from contaminants. Dust will be controlled primarily
by careful project planning and water suppression when required.
Contaminated soil generated during drilling operations will be stockpiled in a soil bin and covered
with plastic sheeting. The material will then be characterized and disposed of in accordance with
all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
FREY Page 7
