Each respirator shall be individually assigned and not interchanged between workers without
cleaning and sanitizing. The cartridge / filters shall be changed after seven (7) daily uses. More
frequent changes shall occur at the first sign of breakthrough based on contaminant warning
properties (i.e. odors) or when the user experiences excessive breathing resistance. Employees are
responsible for dating new cartridges when they are replaced. A dot is to be placed on each
cartridge with a "Sharpie" waterproof marker each day the respirators are used. After seven dots
are accumulated, the cartridges are to be replaced. Respirators shall be cleaned and stored in an
uncontaminated sealed container after each use.
All employees who have the potential of wearing a respirator shall be fit tested to ensure they
utilize the proper size respirator. The fit test is conducted according to the manufacturer's
suggestions. The test shall consist of a taste and odorous vapor qualitative test.
