@ ACW Hazard Communication Program
AMERICAN CONSTRUCTION METALS KB0014737
Hazard Communication Pro ram
The purpose of the Hazard Communication Program is to inform interested parties, including
associates, that American Construction Metals (ACM) is compliant with the OSHA Hazard
Communication Standard §1910.1200; by compiling an electronic hazardous chemical inventory,
providing safety data sheets (SDSs),ensuring that containers are labeled, and providing associates with
information and training.
This program applies to all work operations at ACM where associates may be exposed to hazardous
chemicals under normal working conditions or during foreseeable emergencies.
ACM's National Operations Manager and ACM's Plant Managers have overall responsibility for this
program. The National Operations Manager will review and update the program, as necessary. Copies
of the written program may be obtained from ServiceNow and/or in ACM'S Safety Manual.
All associates can obtain further information on this written program, the Hazard Communication
Standard, applicable SDSs,and chemical inventory lists from ACM's National Operations Manager,
ACM's Plant Managers, and the National Support Center at(608)368-2776. Under this program, our
associates will be informed of the contents of the Hazard Communication Standard, the hazardous
properties of chemicals with which they work with or around, safe handling procedures, and measures
to take to protect themselves from these chemicals. Our associates will also be informed of the hazards
associated with non-routine tasks,such as maintenance/cleaning.
If after reading this program, you find that improvements can be made, please contact the National
Operations Manager or your Plant Manager. We encourage all suggestions because we are committed
to the success of our written Hazard Communication Program. We strive for clear understanding, safe
behavior, and involvement in the program from every level of ACM.
Hazard Evaluation Procedures
Each ACM facility will have a chemical inventory that is a list of hazardous chemicals that are known to
be present at the facility.Anyone who encounters the hazardous chemicals on the list needs to know
what those chemicals are and how to protect themselves. Therefore, it is important that hazardous
chemicals are identified whether they are found in a container or generated in work operations.
The hazardous chemicals on the chemical inventory can cover a variety of physical forms including
liquids, solids, gases, vapors, fumes, and mists. In some cases, hazardous chemicals can be identified
using purchase orders, bill of lading, shipping papers, labels, and SDS.
The National Operations Manager and the Plant Managers update each facility's chemical inventory
electronically as necessary. The updated chemical inventory is located on all plant safety tablets, as well
as, by all members of the management team through the JJ Keller website.JJ Keller is a third-party
service that obtains and maintains all ACM SDSs electronically.
ACM does not currently manufacture any hazardous chemicals.
After the chemical inventory list is compiled, it serves as a list of every hazardous chemical for which an
SIDS must be maintained.
1
