ACC"" Hazard Communication Program
AMERICAN CONSTRUCTION METALS KB0014737
Safety data Sheets(SDSs)
The SDSs we use are fact sheets for hazardous chemicals which pose a physical or health hazard in the
workplace. SDSs provide our associates with specific information on the chemicals they use.The
National Operations Manager and Plant Managers are responsible for obtaining and maintaining the
SDSs at our facilities. They are to contact the chemical manufacturer or vendor if additional research is
necessary. All new procurements for the company must be cleared by the National Operations Manager
and/or the EHS Engineer.
The SDSs are kept readily available for our associates by accessing the facilities'safety tablets.
The procedures followed if the SDS is not received at time of first shipment is:
1. Verify if the SDS is available through A Keller, if not put in a request for them to obtain it.
2. If needed,call the manufacture,and request a copy.
SDSs are a prime resource for obtaining all the pertinent information related to a substance or material
used in the workplace. An SDS contains 16 sections as follows:
1. Identification—Product identifier, manufacturer or distributor, their address, phone number,
emergency number, recommended use, and restrictions on use.
2. Hazard(s) Identification—Hazards of the chemical and label requirements.
3. Composition/Information on Ingredients—Information on ingredients and trade secret claims.
4. First-aid Measures—Important symptoms/effects, acute, delayed,and required treatment.
5. Fire-fighting Measures—Lists suitable extinguishing techniques, equipment, and chemical
hazards from fire.
6. Accidental Release Measures—Lists emergency procedures, protective, equipment, and proper
methods of containment and cleanup.
7. Handling and Storage—Lists precautions for safe handling and storage, including
incompatibilities.
8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection—List OSHA's Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs),ACGIH
Threshold Limit Values (TLVs), and any other exposure limit used or recommended by the
manufacturer, importer,or SDS preparer. Also includes engineering controls and person
protective equipment (PPE).
9. Physical and Chemical Properties—Lists the chemical's characteristics.
10. Stability and Reactivity—Lists chemical stability and possibility of hazardous reactions.
11. Toxicological Information—Includes routes of exposure, related symptoms, acute and chronic
effects, and numerical measures of toxicity.
12. Ecological Information
13. Disposal Considerations
14. Transport Information
15. Regulatory Information
16. Additional Information—Includes date of preparation or last revision.
Labels and Other Forms of Warning
Labels on containers entering the facility need to have at least the following:
2
