Equipment Decontamination Procedures
On the basis of historic and current land use and existing groundwater monitoring data,no
hazardous constituents are expected at the drilling locations. The following steps therefore
represent the minimum decontamination procedures to be employed.
• All equipment used for constructing the well must be free of contamination and cleaned to
prevent potential cross contamination. Equipment, tools, materials, etc.will be
decontaminated prior to the beginning of the abandonment work.
• Some form of steam cleaning or high-pressure water-spraying technique combined with a
low-suds non-phosphate detergent should be employed followed by rinsing with potable
water. When adjacent to land application areas, the rinseate and drill cuttings should be
spread on the ground at the site. When located in the street, the rinseate and drill cuttings
should be placed within a drum. Discharge to stormwater drains or surface water features
is not acceptable.
1.5. Health and Safety Plan
No hazardous constituents or contamination are expected at the project site locations, and all work
should be carried out in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
regulations and guidelines. All personnel working at the site during well abandonment activities
should be familiar with these regulations and guidelines.
The primary physical hazards are associated with the use of the drilling rig and supporting vehicles.
All drillers performing work must possess required C-57 license, and all drill crew members should
Hydro Focus, Inc. 3
