Job Steps Risks/Hazards Quality/Safe Work Practices <br /> Throughout the sampling task wear safety glasses and Nitrile gloves whenever <br /> Contact with contaminated water/sludge/soil in manway there is a risk of contact with potentially contaminated groundwater. Evaluate <br /> the need for a face shield. <br /> Void manway of standing water/sludge/soil present above well cap before <br /> removing to avoid unwanted entry of contaminated media into well. Throughout <br /> Cross contamination the sampling task there is a potential for cross contamination,follow <br /> decontamination procedures between wells. When sampling multi-channel or <br /> Removing/installing well caps and nested wells,close one well channel before gauging/sampling the next well. <br /> gauging wells <br /> Use channel lock pliers to firmly grasp well caps and lift straight up. Be sure to keep work <br /> area clean and free of ancillary sampling supplies(tools,bottle ware,debris, <br /> etc.)to prevent dropping or kicking into the well. <br /> NO UTILITY KNIVES ARE TO BE USED. Use non-bladed tools(wire cutters, <br /> Cuts/abrasions when cutting materials(bailer rope,tubing,etc.) snips,scissors, plastic pipe and tubing cutters);wear Kevlar gloves;cut away <br /> Purging and sampling equipment use from body/hands. <br /> Tripover equipment um cords,tubing,string,etc. Keep cords,tubing,string,etc. neat,straight,and flat to the ground to avoid <br /> q pment(pump, ) tripping and place in an area of low traffic or away from the work area. <br /> Lift with legs shoulder width apart, keep load centered with body over load to lift <br /> Back strain from lowering/lifting equipment and do not use back to lift load. Any load over 50 pounds requires a two-man <br /> I ift. <br /> Observe potential pinch point areas on specific equipment and don <br /> Pinch points appropriate/minimum PPE for task. Identify and discuss different potential pinch <br /> points associated with different types of sampling equipment. <br /> Knee injury due to kneeling on hard/rough surface.
