Notify the client and land owner of location where work is taking place. <br /> Ensure that you have all necessary gate lock combinations/keys <br /> beforehand. <br /> Hunters in applicable areas can present a potential risk of getting hit by stray Be aware of all active hunting seasons in the area.Wear Hi-vis(orange) <br /> bullets or arrows. vests and all other appropriate clothing so you can clearly identify yourself <br /> to hunters in the area. <br /> Attacks from wildlife in applicable areas. Reseach the types of wildlife known to be in the area.Carry and <br /> understand how to operate any necessary animal deterrent.Understand <br /> typical behaviors based upon location and time of year(could young be <br /> around)and avoid animals. Make noise while walking so as not to startle <br /> animals. <br /> Being hit by vehicles operated by third parties When mapping mark outs in streets,do so from the curbside,not from the <br /> street surface. If crossing a street is necessary to view mark outs,do so at <br /> designated pedestrian crosswalks. <br /> Being struck by flying debris from vehicular traffic Ensure that all propper PPE is worn at all times,see above. <br /> Connecting the Locator to the Pipeline Cuts/Hand injuries from pipeline/test lead surfaces Take notice of condition of the pipeline before attaching the locators leads. <br /> Be aware of any sharp edges or burrs and wear impact gloves. <br /> Insects stings and bites from insects Use caution when connecting the locator to pipeline test leads as insects <br /> tend to nest and lay eggs in the caps.Prior to removing caps,observe for <br /> signs of insects,remove cap slowly with opening away from body. Use <br /> insect repellant. <br /> Locating by Induction Setting the locator down as interference by other utilities will lead to inaccurate Be aware of other utilities in the area as they can affect your readings. <br /> readings <br /> This method should be used only if physically connecting to the pipeline is <br /> impractical. <br /> Locating the Line and Recording the Slips,trips and falls Be sure not to focus all of your attention to the locator and be aware of <br /> Depth your surroundings.Clear a path with your eyes prior to walking along the <br /> line,remove items you may trip over and if not possible to move,mark it so <br /> you can avoid it. <br /> Recording inaccurate depth When recording the depth of the pipeline be sure the bottom of the <br /> receiver is placed squarely on the ground and is over the area with the <br /> hi hest si nal response. <br /> Utility Painting Using the incorrect colors for the types of utility located Mark the path of the pipeline using either white or pink survey paint unless <br /> instructed otherwise by the client. <br /> Clean Up Lost equipment Be sure to properly collect and store all equipment associated with the line <br /> locator. <br /> Damage to prospety gates or fencing or lost livestock Ensure that all gates are correctly locked and the work site is properly <br /> cleaned. <br /> Page 1 of 1 Revised 9/20/10 <br />
