F
e monitoring system is illustrated on the Auxiliary Design Plans. Since all eight non-compliant
ptic tanks are monolithic and traffic-rated, the tanks with near certainty, could not leak. The
et and outlet tightline connections are virtually the only locations effluent could leak into the
vironment.
The monitoring system entails constructing a collar encasing the 3" tightlines that enter and exit
the eight septic tanks, with a 6" diameter PVC pipe. A PVC round plate cover will be glued to
cover the 6" opening, and will have a 3" drilled hole through this PVC cover at the open end. The
3" hole will allow the influent pipes to continue through the 6" pipe and connect to each tank. To
stabilize the 6" pipe, each pipe will be glued to the septic tank outer wall with construction glue,
and with sufficient compacted soil backfill under the pipe to support it. A vertical 4" pipe will be
inserted and glued into a hole cut at the top of the 6" pipe, with a watertight cap and Christy box,
(or eq.) to allow inspection.
If effluent should leak from any of the 15 - 3" tightline connections to the septic tanks referenced
below, the 6" pipe and outer cover will capture and retain any leaked effluent. Potential leakage
could be observed during inspections by peering into the vertical 4" pipe with a flashlight. If
standing effluent is observed in any of the monitoring tubes, the 4" tightline and septic tank
connection must be excavated and evaluated immediately.
The Site Plan in Appendix M illustrates the following seven septic tanks and Lift Station#1 tank
that are out of compliance with the applicable setback distance from both the new public well and
the existing non-domestic well. These tanks will have the proposed Septic Tank Monitoring
System installed on the inlet and outlet sides of the tanks (except only the inlet side of the Marina
holding tank) for a total of 15 connections:
1. Guest Laundry/Housekeeping Building
2. Restrooms/Showers Building
3. Marina Holding Tank
4. Four westernmost Hero Lodges (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D)
5. Lift Station#1 Tank
Page -10-
Chesney Engineering, Inc.
