Mitigation of Releases or Threatened Releases: ,
In the event of a small, incidental spill, the employees are trained to minimize the potential for the
small spill to migrate to a water system by spreading absorbent or blocking the path to the '
waterway. The employees are instructed to isolate the area if needed and contact one of the
site's Designated Environmental Associates (DEA)who is trained to respond to the spill.
The DEA will ensure the incidental spill is contained, then will log into the electronic ,
environmental software for spill clean-up instructions. Instructions include the selection of proper
personal protective equipment (PPE). The DEA will take a spill kit and over-pack containers to the
spill and after donning PPE will proceed to clean up the spill according to the instructions
provided by the electronic on-line system.Absorbed materials will be properly stored in '
appropriate containers that are labeled in accordance with applicable regulations. Containers are
stored in the designated waste accumulation area until such time as the licensed waste
transporters remove the waste for proper RCRA disposal.
Abatement of a Release: '
Small Release Response
Employee will isolate the area as needed and will contact one of the site's Designated ,
Environmental Associates (DEA) to respond to the incidental spill. The DEA is authorized and
trained to clean up incidental spills and manage the waste in accordance with HD Supply's waste
management program which includes use of proper personal protective equipment, absorbent
materials, waste containerizing, labeling and segregation. '
Large(Emergency)Release Response
Employee will isolate the area and immediately notify one of the site's Designated Environmental
Associates(DEA)to respond to the spill. The employee and/or DEA will protect waterways to the '
extent feasible by blocking or diking the spill area and storm drains. The DEA will determine
whether to evacuate the building and will contact local 911 responders and the HD Supply
authorized emergency spill contractor for assistance. All hazardous waste will be managed in
accordance with applicable regulations. '
Releases from USTs
Not applicable
Evacuation Procedures
Some emergency situations such as fires or toxic chemical releases may dictate that the facility t
be promptly evacuated. Make sure you are familiar with the emergency exits and routes of
egress at your facility as well as the internal alarm systems.
Your building may be equipped with fire alarm pull stations. These are typically located adjacent '
to exit doors. To activate the alarms, pull down sharply on the handle of the pull station. Your
building may have a fire sprinkler system. The system most likely has an internal flow alarm that
will sound if water begins flowing through the sprinkler system. If your facility is equipped with a
public address system, make sure you know how to activate the PA system to sound the alarm. t
If you rely on verbal notification to alert building occupants, be sure to practice sounding the
alarm during your annual fire drill.
Once the alarm has been sounded begin promptly directing associates and customers to the ,
closest and safest exits. Make sure associates accompany customers to the rally points. Make
sure you check offices and restrooms to ensure everyone is out of the building. Once everyone is
out of the building, do not permit anyone to go back into the building until the fire department has '
given the all clear.
