If rain water inside the secondary <br /> containment pallets has an oily sheen, it must be managed as hazardous waste according to the <br /> ' Hazardous Waste Management program. <br /> Hazardous Waste Management <br /> If you discover that a container of hazardous materials has passed the expiration date, is <br /> ' significantly damaged, is leaking, or has spilled, contact your facility's Designated Environmental <br /> Associate (DEA) so he/she can respond to the spill or threatened release. If needed, isolate the <br /> area so others will not be exposed to the material that has spilled. On occasion, hazardous <br /> materials are left at our facilities by customers and others. If you discover unknown materials at <br /> ' the facility,for example in the parking lot, contact your DEA to manage the material. <br /> If you discover that there has been a sizeable spill or a release of some type (for example, say a <br /> truck's diesel tank has been ruptured and diesel is leaking), cover storm drains and block <br /> ' drainage paths as best you can with booms from the spill kits or other readily available materials. <br /> Call your DEA to respond to the emergency spill and isolate the area. <br /> Never: <br /> ' • Pour hazardous materials onto the ground or down drains <br /> • Clean up a spill of ANY size—only DEAs are trained and permitted to respond to spills <br /> • Disregard spilled materials <br /> ' Inspections <br /> Weekly and/or monthly inspection of hazardous materials in storage for sale or use and <br /> hazardous waste accumulation areas is an important task that ensures leaks, spills, or other <br /> issues are identified promptly and appropriately dealt with. DEAs are responsible for conducting <br /> these formal inspections, but all associates share the responsibility of ensuring that hazardous <br /> waste is managed well and good housekeeping is a common practice. <br /> ' Reporting Incidents—Who to Call <br /> • In the event of a small spill or threatened release, contact your DEA. <br /> • In the event of a large or uncontrolled spill or release, contact your DEA. If the DEA is <br /> ' not readily available and the situation appears to be an emergency, call 911 for <br /> assistance and contact the HD Supply emergency spill response vendor, PSC at 877- <br /> .577-2669. <br /> • In the event of a non-emergency workplace accident, contact your supervisor. <br /> ' • In the event of an emergency, contact 911 and your supervisor. <br /> In the event of a fire or some other serious situation, sound the alarm using the internal <br /> alarms system and/or by making verbal notifications to others around you.
