Goggles or a face-shield must be worn when directly handling hazardous
substances or chemicals. The use of safety cones to block the area you are working in is
STRONGLY recommended.
Each employee has a responsibility to know and understand the basic rules and regulations for the
operation of a gas station and how they apply to your day-to-day work. While on-site each employee
should know a minimum about the equipment and procedures used to ensure the safety of the employee,
co-workers, customers, and the protection of our environment.
Each employee has a responsibility to help ensure that proper procedures are followed for the day-to-day
operation of the gas station.
UST Operators (Store Owners) have a much greater responsibility towards maintaining the gas station in
the proper order. Examples of their responsibilities are listed below:
UST operators must
• Maintain the UST in accordance with all applicable Federal, State and local regulations
• Maintain UST facilities such that releases due to spills and overfills do not occur.
• Report, investigate, and clean up any suspected releases and any releases due to spills
and overfilling.
• Ensure that any repairs made to a UST will prevent releases due to structural failure or
corrosion.
• Aid local agencies during regulatory inspections, and cooperate with testing and
monitoring requirements of each regulatory agency.
• Meet all reporting requirements of the regulatory agency including
a. Notification of UST's
b. UST repairs as applicable
b. Release detection operation and maintenance records.
• Maintain records either on site.
All of 7-Eleven's gas stations are operated under permits that are issued by the county you are in. Since
the county issues these Permits to Operate, they have the authority to enter your store at any time,
without notice or reason, to perform an inspection on the station to make sure you are following the
regulations established by the Federal, State and Local agencies. These same inspectors have the
authority to ask any and all station employees questions to make sure the employees are being properly
trained as described by the State of California.
7-11 UST Training Employee_Rev4_2008.doc GVR Confidential
