HOLLY SUGAR CORPORATION • INTER -OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE
May 16, 1986
SUBJECT: LETTER OF FEBRUARY 20, 1986, COMPLAINT INVESTIGATION,
HOLLY SUGAR, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Mr. John A. Richmond
Vice President -
Technical Services
M V'
In response to the "FINDINGS" Section of Mr. Azevedo's as referenced,
I would like to present the following technical work plan and time
schedule:
Item 1 - Partially Full Drums of Muriatic Acid in the Pond
This item had already been responded by Holly Sugar Corporation's
letter of March 17, 1986, to California Regional Water Quality
Control Board, Sacramento, California.
Item 2 - Calcium Oxide. Waste
At the end of campaign, the remaining portion of the kiln's contents
with pH of approximately 12.0 will be stored and reused for the
subsequent campaign. The storage pit will consist of a 6 -ft. deep
concrete structure measuring 16'-0" x 12'-0" with a 12 -ft sloping
bottom for loader access. The pit will also be provided with a sump
approximately 3 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft deep. The partially burnt limerock
approximately 50 tons will be covered with a tarpaulin in order to
keep the rain out. The sump will be piped to the waste water pond.
Engineering is scheduled to be completed in a month.
Item 3 - BackQround Soil Test
The testing results indicating less than 0.01 mg/l concentration
in each of the samples are below the detection limit. These results
had already been reported to California Regional Water Quality Control
Board by Holly Sugar Corporation's letter of May 6, 1986.
