y <br />J <br />carbon in and around the facility. Bulk carbon waste <br />accounted for 38.5 tons of waste in 1992 and drummed <br />carbon waste accounted for 3.6 tons of waste in 1992. <br />B. Lab solvents: Methanol, <br />Ketone, Petroleum, Ether, <br />in small quantities. <br />Ethyl Acetate, Methylethyl <br />and Mineral Spirits are used <br />Nestle performs on site laboratory tests for the <br />groundwater and for product quality control. Wastes <br />are collected in 5 -gallon containers outside the lab <br />storage building and picked up by Falcon Energy and <br />transported to Kissel Company, St. Louis, MO, for <br />recycling. Approximately 100 lbs. of lab waste is <br />produced each year. <br />C. Lube Oil: Waste oil is collected in the vehicle repair <br />shop and stored in 55 -gallon drums outside the shop. <br />The waste oil is transported and recycled by Alviso <br />Oil, Alviso, CA. Approximately 1.5 tons of waste oil <br />is generated each year. <br />D. Antifreeze: Waste antifreeze is collected in the <br />vehicle repair shop and stored in a 55 -gallon drum <br />outside the shop. The waste antifreeze is transported <br />by I.T. Corporation and then recycled. Approximately <br />.5 tons of antifreeze is produced each year. <br />E. Asbestos: The company policy is to keep asbestos <br />encapsulated before removal occurs. It is done in a <br />sealed system and the material is bagged and drummed. <br />The asbestos is stored in an enclosed fence inside a <br />storage barn on the east side of the property. The <br />material is then transported by National Environmental <br />or I.T. Corporation for landfilling at Anderson, CA or <br />B & J Sanitary Landfill in Vacaville, CA. <br />Approximately 1 ton of asbestos is disposed of each <br />year. <br />F. In 1990, a one time shipment (2,679 pounds) of old <br />surplus laboratory solvents was hauled by Tri-State <br />Motor Transits and incinerated by Ensco, Inc. in E1 <br />Dorado, AR. The shipment included potassium cyanide, <br />hydrofluoric acid, mercury, toluene, TCE, lead acetate, <br />other oxidizers, flammable liquids, combustible <br />liquids, corrosive materials, and poisons. <br />3 <br />
