AAW
I
page 2 , 2050 Fremont Street
The locations of the proposed CPT borings have been chosen to fully surround the
source area , as well as to extend the investigation in the down-gradient direction. In
conversation with Stratus it was discussed that sample collection in the CPT borings
located near current on-site wells will begin near the groundwater interface and extend
to depth . Sampling in all other borings will occur through the entire boring . The exact
locations for sample collection will be determined by the subsurface lithology in each
boring . Soil samples will be collected from tighter, finer grained materials and
hydropunch water samples will be collected from coarse grained materials and water
bearing zones .
The scope of work proposed by Stratus is very extensive. It is the recommendation of
PHS/EHD that, as work progresses, the field screening of collected samples is closely
monitored and the need for all lateral CPT borings is continually evaluated and justified .
Soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gas
(TPHg) , and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020
Modified , and for all oxygenates (MtBE, EtBE , DIPE, tAME and TBA) and 1 , 2-
Dichloroethane by EPA Method 8260. Please note that the Regional Water Quality
Control Board , Central Valley Region has requested that all sites test for the lead
scavenger Ethylene dibromide prior to submitting a request for site closure. It is the
recommendation of PHS/EHD that selected soil samples also be tested for geophysical
parameters.
The work plan as outlined above is approved . Please proceed with obtaining the
necessary encroachment and/or revocable permits from the City of Stockton for work
proposed in the city right-of-way, and access agreements from the surrounding property
owners for work proposed on off-site private property. Please note that a PHS/EHD well
permit application and required $89. 00 fee will be needed for each separate parcel of
land on which drilling will be done . Following issuance of the well permits, 48-hours
notice to PHS/EHD is required prior to performing fieldwork.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran , REHS , Director
Environmental Health Division
(,Uv: CA
Lori Duncan , Senior REHS Margar Lagorio , REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell , CVRWQCB
Jay Johnson , Stratus Environmental , Inc.
