ARCADIS
facilities included four service bays, three dispenser islands, one sales kiosk, three
10,000 -gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (UST), one 1,000 -gallon used -oil
UST, one 550 -gallon previously abandoned used -oil UST, and one hydraulic hoist.
All facilities associated with the former Chevron were removed during August of
1998. The site is bound to the west by South Lee Avenue, to the east by South
Pleasant Avenue, to the south by Kettleman Lane, and to the north by residential
areas. The site is currently operated as a Prime Shine Express Car Wash and Auto
Lube Center.
Well Destruction and System Decommissioning Activities
Between March 2 and March 17, 2009, Cascade Drilling Incorporated (Cascade) of
Rancho Cordova, California, under the supervision of ARCADIS, destroyed 27
groundwater monitoring wells (MW -1, MW -2, MW -3, MW -4, MW -5A, MW -5B, MW -6,
MW -7A, MW -7B, MW -8A, MW -8B, MW -8S, MW -9A, MW -9B, MW -10A, MW -10B,
MW -10C, MW -11A, MW -11B, MW -12A, MW -12B, MW -13, MW -17B, MW -18B, MW -
19C, MW -20A, and MW -20B), three groundwater extraction wells (EX -1, EX -2, and
EX -3) and four vapor extraction wells (VE -1, VE -2, VE -3, and VE -4). Groundwater
extraction well EW -1 was destroyed by removing the well box and over-drilling with
14 -inch outside diameter (OD) hollow stem augers (HSA) to total completion depth
(65 feet below ground surface [bgs]) to remove all material (e.g. casing, filter pack,
annular seal, etc.) associated with the well. The borehole was then pressure grouted
from the bottom of the bore hole to surface grade using a tremie pipe and cement
bentonite grout.
The well boxes were removed from the remaining groundwater extraction wells,
vapor extraction wells and all monitoring wells. The wells were then pressure grouted
from the bottom to surface grade using a tremie pipe and cement bentonite grout.
The upper 3 feet was then over-drilled using 12 -inch OD HSAs. The upper 3 feet was
then grouted and completed to grade with cement bentonite grout.
Investigative Derived Waste
Soil cuttings and rinsate water generated during these activities was temporarily
stored onsite in labeled 55 gallon drums pending characterization and disposal. On
April 2, 2009, soil cuttings and rinsate water were removed from the site. Soil cuttings
were properly disposed of at the Republic Services Vasco Road Landfill in
Livermore, California. Rinsate water was disposed of at Chemical Waste
