Pump Capacity
A submersible pump would be required to pump 12 gpm at a total head of 150 feet with a 1"discharge
line. A one h.p. submersible turbine pump will be sufficient for all the pumping requirements of this
proj ect.
Clean Water Disposal
Removal and transportation for the disposal of the treated water will be by truck to the industrial sewer
of the City of Lodi. The industrial sewer is the only disposal allowed by the City. Mr. Fran Forkas,City
of Lodi Water Superintendent, has approved this method of disposal. Mr.Forkas proposed two methods
for transport of the clean filtered water to the industrial sewer line that lies on the south side of
Kettleman Lane. The first method would require the underground jacking of a discharge line from the
property to a manhole on the southwest corner of the intersection of Kettleman and Lower Sacramento
Road. The second method would be by trucking the clean filtered water to the White Slough Treatment
Plant or an existing connection to the industrial sewer line. He discouraged any attempt to apply for a
NPDES permit to discharge in to the City storm drain system.
The discharge pipe jacking to the manhole option would require upwards of$25, 000 just to install the
discharge line. Trucking to the White Slough Treatment Plant would cost about $400 per day of
operation. A complete removal of the ground water in the eleven foot thick aquifer for a 70 foot radius
would require +/- 29 days of pump and treat filter operation ( 507,000 gal ). This would amount to
$11,600 in trucking and $2,000 in Baker Tank rental for a total of$13,600 dollars. Disposal by truck
is the most economical, if the cleanup can be comple Led in less than 5S days. The author estimates
between 30 and 45 days of the pump and treat operation will be required.
Proposed Groundwater Cleanup Levels
Benzene to less than 5 ug/L
WL I BE,to less than 1 ug,'L
TPHg to less than 2.0 mg/L
4-
