2255 S. Airport Way, Stockton
Page 2
of Stockton building permit required to install the remediation system so that installation
of the system is not delayed.
The lateral and vertical extent of the soil and groundwater contamination at this site have
not been defined. There were concentrations of contaminants found in the soil samples
from SBI from 30 feet below surface grade (bsg) to its total depth of 86 feet bsg. Soil
samples from VW 1 from 15 feet bsg to its total depth of 52 feet bsg also had
concentration of contaminants. The groundwater monitoring wells are monitoring first
water (approximately 40 feet bsg) to a depth of 55 to 60 feet bsg. The highest
contaminant concentrations are seen in the water samples from MW1. The first water
zone is somewhat defined by water samples from MW4, MW7, MW2 and MW8. The
first water zone is not defined to the east of MW6. In addition, deeper zones of
groundwater have not been investigated to demonstrate that the groundwater
contamination is vertically defined. Although, soil vapor extraction and air sparging have
been approved to remediate the vadose zone and first water zone, if deeper contamination
is found additional remedial alternatives may need to be evaluated. Please note that for
soil and groundwater contamination to be defined, there should be no detection of
contaminants laterally and vertically from the source area. Submit a workplan to EHD
for further investigation of the lateral and vertical extent of the contamination by January
16, 2007.
Analysis for MTBE, DIPS, ETBE, TAME, TBA, methanol, and ethanol was performed
on the water samples from MWI through MW4 collected on July 31,2003, with results
below detection limits. No other testing has been done for these constituents. The EHD
directs that analysis for these contaminants be conducted for at least the next two
quarterly sampling events in all of the monitoring wells at the site (MW 1 through MWS).
If you have any questions, please contact Frank Girardi at (209) 953-7868.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Department
vet
Frank Girardi , Senior RENS Margaret agorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Program Coordinator
i
c: Horizon Environmental Inc. —Rexford Smith
c: RWQCB, Central Valley Region—Jim Barton
I
f
