LFR Levine-Fricke
Rew sed
with a blank steel plug or a continuous core barrel soil sampler As the augers tigers are
rotated into the
ground, the sediments encountered in the middle of the boring are
forced into the continuous core barrel sampler, and Elie sediments encountered on the
outer edges of the bit and lead auger are cut and conveyed to the ground surface via the
outer flights of the auger The continuous core barrel, which is connected to the ground
surface by steel drill rods or cable, is extracted from the bit and lead auger whenever a
new section of auger is added (tyPically every S feet) or more often depending on the
soil sampling procedures and on the recovery success experienced. This drillmg method
allows soil sampling and completion of the monitoring well to be conducted inside the
augers while the augers allow the boring to remain open The augers are slowly
removed from the borehole as the monitoring well casing, sand, bentonite, and/or grout
are added from the bottom up
The boring will be abandoned and sealed with a S]CPHS/EHD-approved
cement/bentonite slurry. The slurry will be pumped into the boring through a tremie
pipe placed in the bottom of the boring, and the boring will be filled to approxunately 1
to 2 ft bgs. The remainder of the boring will be filled with topsoil, pavement, or
concrete to be consistent with site surface conditions
Air-Rotary Casin&Hamrrmer Drilling
The air-rotary casing-hammer(ARCH) drilling method consists of a truck-mounted
drill rig turning a to-cone (Or Other type) drill bit at the end of hollow drill rods,
similar to the mud-rotary drilling method. Rather than drilling mud however,
compressed air is used to convey the drill cuttings to the surface The boring is kept
open by a steel conductor casing advanced down the borehole in conjunction with the
drill bit using a hydraulic or air-driven casing hammer mounted on the drill-rig motor
The compressed air, which is used to convey the cuttings and formation fluids to the
surface and keep the bit cool, is forced through filters and dryers to prevent Cross
contaQmiation from oils or water generated by the air compressor_ After reaching final
boring depth, the drill bit and rods are removed, and the monitoring well is constructed
inside the borehole, which is held open by the steel casing The steel casing is slowly
removed frorn the borehole a$ the monitoring well casing sand, bentonite, and/or grout
are added from the bottom up. This drilling method will be used primarily for the
installation of shallow- or deep-zone wells within soil-source primary chemical-release
areas, because the conductor casing that is driven downward during drilling will
minimize cross Contamination.
9.2.4 Dual Completion Well Installation and Development
Dual completion, soil vapor extraction, and sparging/groundwater monitonng wells
will be mstalled at the Guild Cleaners property_ The well specifications are provided in
Section 5.1 of this Work Plait. After installation of wells, a licensed surveying
subcontractor will survey the elevation of each well to allow for placement on base
maps,
W"VEGS-LWt-+v_MI23 d&Iir
02_ii:0 d 8£T009b50ZT 01 906P zS9 0TS 3NOIdA 3NIA31 dal N3 8b 9T Z0. 60 inn
