22 August 2011
AGE-NC Project No. 11-1934
Page 2 of 6
2.1.2 AST Age and Remaining Service Life
Facility staff are unsure of the AST placed in service year. The age of this AST is estimated
at not greater than 20 years [22CCR§66265.192(k)(3)]. The remaining service life is
estimated at 10 years [22CCR§ 66265.192(k)(11)]. Additional AST specifications are
included as Table 2
2.1.3. Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Construction
The AST specifications are shown on Figure 3 and is described with features, including:
• General shape is rectangular;
• Orientation is length wise, north to south [22CCR§66265.192 (k)(1)];
• Industry standard for AST construction is A36 steel with the primary tank top, side
wall, end wall and bottom measuring approximately 9/64-inch, 3/16-inch, 7/64-inch
and 9/64-inch respectively. The secondary tank top, side wall, end wall and bottom
measure approximately 7/64-inch in thickness [22CCR§66265.192(k)(2)(A)] as
measure by measuring tape;
• Though the original blue paint coat appears slightly faded, with minimal areas
showing bear steel, the AST is within a precipitation free enclosure. The visible tank
surface appeared in fair condition. Information on the original corrosion protection
coatings were not available from the manufacturer [22CCR§66265.192(k)(5)]; and
Is Has not been attached to the ground.
2.1.4. AST Ancillary Equipment
The AST ancillary equipment includes the audible and visual overflow mechanical reading
gauge.
2.2. OVERFLOW PROTECTION
The overflow protection system is comprised of the audible alarm and visual level gauge.
The visual level gauge is a mechanical float indicating overflow when the AST is at 90%
capacity. The AST is typically not filled past a 85% level.
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
