the baler and the warehouse_ <br /> IV PROPER HANDLING/STORAGE <br /> All employees are responsible for making sure the following precautions <br /> are taken in paper storage areas. <br /> 1. Do not store paper near possible sources of ignition. <br /> (i.e. open flames, open electrical switches, etc.) <br /> 2. Make sure paper storage areas have a minimum of 18 inches <br /> vertical clearance between material and sprinklers. <br /> 3. Smoking is permitted in designated areas. <br /> 4. All flammable and combustible liquids will be kept in approved <br /> containers / storage cabinets outside of paper storage areas. <br /> 5. Practice good housekeeping, do not allow debris or flammable <br /> materials to accumulate. <br /> 6. Follow safe procedures when working with solvents, gasoline and <br /> fuels. <br /> 7. Obtain a Hot Work Permit when burning / welding in designated <br /> areas. <br /> V HOT WORK PROCEDURE <br /> Before any hot work is performed in any paper storage or designated <br /> flammable area, this would include electrical panes in the baler and warehouse <br /> a "Hot Work' permit will be filled out by the plant manager. The supervisor is to <br /> ensure the area is free from fire hazards and that the permit has been properly <br /> completed. The permit will be posted at the job site. A copy of the Hot Work <br /> Permit is provided in appendix A. Once the job has been completed the Hot <br /> Work Permit will be filed for 30 days. <br /> VI POTENTIAL IGNITION SOURCES <br /> The most common sources of ignition at the Stockton plant involve: <br /> 1. Open Flames <br /> 2. Burning / Welding Operations <br /> 3. Smoking <br /> 4. Electrical Overloads <br />
