BoReTech:)m
The accumulation time begins on the first date on which any amount of hazardous
waste begins to accumulate during that month (i.e., when the first drop enters the
temporary storage drum).
If Boretech generates less than 220 lbs (approximately 27 gallons) per month:
Boretech can accumulate indefinitely up to 220 lbs (approximately 27 gallons) until 220
lbs is reached. When the total of 220 lbs has been accumulated, mark this date on the
container, and then you have 90 days to remove the waste from the facility. The 90 -day
storage period begins the moment that any amount of waste meets or exceeds the 220
lbs. Used oil must be counted toward the 220 -Ib threshold.
Satellite Accumulation Exception
There is one exception to accumulation time limit rules summarized in Section 1.2.3;
this exception is called "Satellite Accumulation" which allows a small amount of
hazardous waste to be stored indefinitely if all of the following conditions are met:
• It must be located at or near the generation point and within the line of sight of
the operator of the equipment (i.e., cannot be stored in a separate room away
from the point of generation).
• Each container must be clearly marked as a hazardous waste. The container
must also be marked with the initial date of accumulation.
• Only 55 gallons per waste stream can be accumulated at each point of
generation (except spent solvent in a parts washer, which must be contained in a
drum no larger than 33 gallons).
• After the 55 gallons are reached or one year since the start of accumulation, the
container must be moved within 3 days to the 90 -day hazardous waste storage
area.
• Ensure that only hazardous wastes generated by the designated process are
accumulated in that area.
• Ensure that all of the waste handling and storage requirements listed in Section
1.2.4 are met.
2.2.4 Hazardous Waste Handling and Storage Requirements
2.2.4.1 Containers
• Never allow the waste to accumulate onsite for more than the applicable
accumulation time limits discussed above in Section 1.2.3
• Apply a hazardous waste label (See Section 1.2.5) and orient containers so that
the label is clearly visible for inspection on each container
• Keep containers closed at all times except when waste is being added or
removed (i.e., do not leave funnel in the drum when not in use to transfer liquids
and do not prop open the drum lid with any item). Make sure all lids, bungs, and
drum straps are secure.
Boretech Hazardous Materials & Hazardous Waste Management Operations Plan Page 111
