5.0 INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES AND FINDINGS
Telic investigated both the site and the study area, defined as the off-site area within
a radius of approximately 1/4 mile of the site.
5.1 Site Visit
A site visit was conducted by Telic personnel on August 2, 1990 to review areas of
potential environmental concern related to the use of hazardous materials at the site. The
weather on that day was clear; temperature 95°; winds were approximately 2-5 miles per hour
from the southwest.
The property is relatively flat. There were indications that the site has been used for
the disposal of construction debris consisting of dirt, rock and concrete material. There are
three locations where additional debris has recently been disposed of. Two of the locations are
along Anderson Street on Parcel 12. A larger quantity of debris is located on Parcel 18 along
the spur tracks. Along the western boundary of the site, a considerable amount of broken tile
that has been disposed of and appears to be used as fill.
The entire site was walked. No odors, discolored soil, stressed vegetation or other
evidence of spills or disposal activities were found during the site review.
The railroad lines to the north and dividing the property in a north to south direction
are on rock foundations, generally from one to three feet high. Chemically treated timbers
support the rail ties. No vegetation was observed along the railroad lines. Typically,
herbicides are used to prevent weeds and vegetation from growing on and around the tracks.
During the on-site visit, Telic personnel looked for, but did not find, evidence of the
following:
5
