A UW handler shall manage <br />lamps in a way that prevents releases of any UW or component of a UW to the environment. A UW <br />handler shall contain any lamp in a container or package that is structurally sound, adequate to prevent <br />breakage, and compatible with the contents of the lamp. Such a container or package shall remain <br />closed and shall lack evidence of leakage or damage that could cause leakage under reasonably <br />foreseeable conditions. Correct immediately by storing UW lamps into a proper container and close it. <br />Submit a statement and supporting documentation explaining how this waste was managed by <br />December 19, 2012. <br />805. Six universal waste(UW) mercury containing lamps were found in the trash. A UW handler shall <br />manage mercury containing lamps in a closed or airtight containers and in a manner that prevents <br />breakage and release to the environment. A UW handler shall contain any lamp in a container or <br />package that is structurally sound, adequate to prevent breakage, and compatible with the contents of <br />the lamp. Such a container or package shall remain closed and shall lack evidence of leakage or <br />damage that could cause leakage under reasonably foreseeable conditions. Correct immediately by <br />storing UW lamps into a proper container and close it. Submit a statement and supporting <br />documentation explaining how this waste was managed by December 19, 2012. <br />808. Two UW lamps and six UW mercury containing lamps were not labeled to identify type of UW. A <br />UW handler shall label or mark UW to identify the type of waste. Lamps (i.e., each lamp), or a container <br />in which the lamp(s) are contained, shall be labeled or marked clearly with the following phrase: <br />"Universal Waste-Lamp(s)". Correct immediately by marking the UW lamps with the words "Universal <br />Waste-Lamp(s)". Submit a statement and supporting documentation explaining how this waste was <br />managed by December 19, 2012. <br />809. The facility did not demonstrate when the UW lamps on site became a UW. A UW handler shall <br />accumulate UW for no longer than one year from the date the UW was generated, or was received from <br />another UW handler. A UW handler shall be able to demonstrate the length of time that the UW has <br />been accumulated from the date it became a waste or was received. The UW handler may make this <br />demonstration by: (1) Placing the UW in a container and marking or labeling the container with the <br />earliest date that any UW in the container became a waste or was received. (2) Marking or labeling the <br />individual item of UW with the date it became a waste or was received. (3) Maintaining an inventory <br />system on site that identifies the date the UW being accumulated became a waste or was received. (4) <br />Maintaining an inventory system on site that identifies the earliest date that any UW in a group of items <br />of UW or group of containers of UW became a waste or was received.
