SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM POLICY/PROCEDURE MANUAL • TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY PLAN POLICY NUMBER 5.06 PAGE 7 OF 14 3.3.2.1 The Clinical Coordinator will follow the administrative policy and procedure on Emergency Incident Command and will confer with the Safety Director as necessary to activate the External Response Team 3.3.3 If the spilled material is flammable, all ignition sources will be immediately turned off. 3.3.4 In the event of personal injury, any injured employee should immediately report to the Emergency Department. The Material Safety Data Sheet for the spilled hazardous material should be sent with the employee. 3.3.5 If the spill is an incidental (small) quantity, trained personnel from the department involved with the spill will identify the material, isolate the spill, neutralize the material, and contain and proceed to clean up the spill using department spill materials. • 3.3.5.1 Departmental staff shall not respond with "Emergency spill response" off-hours unless they have received appropriate hazardous materials training. 3.3.5.2A11 other procedures will be followed as written for regular response during normal working hours (3.1 and 3.2). 3.4 Spills involving soil/water contamination. 3.4.4 When possible, all hazardous spills shall be contained and diked to prevent possible contamination of ground water, soil, and sewer systems. 3.4.5 In the event a hazardous waste spill should get into the sanitary sewer system, immediate action should be taken to stop further contamination.
