Al. HANDLING/PREPARATION <br />These procedures apply to tanks, including Oil/Water <br />Separators. <br />♦ The customer is responsible for rigging, unloading and <br />securing the tank. <br />♦ All Single -Wall (SWT), Double -Wall (DWT) and Triple - <br />Wall (TWT) tanks must be mechanically unloaded. <br />They may not be self -unloaded by the driver. <br />♦ For temporary storage of tanks at job site: <br />❑ Read Placement Instructions (in the shipping packet) <br />prior to unloading tanks. <br />❑ Set on smooth ground (no protruding rocks, or hard <br />objects) or on the shipping pads. <br />❑ Chock with sandbags provided. <br />❑ if high winds are anticipated, tie the tanks down to <br />prevent damage. <br />❑ When the tank must be rolled for air/soap test, roll <br />only on shipping pads or smooth surface free of <br />protruding rocks or hard objects. Ensure fittings and/ <br />or collars do not come in contact with the ground <br />(see "Testing" in Section A3 of Pub. No. INET. 6001). <br />NOTE: In freezing conditions, protect collars from <br />water accumulation. Freezing water may cause <br />freeze damage. <br />LIFTING TANKS <br />091 <br />♦ Use ONLY lifting equipment to move tanks. <br />♦ Ensure that all lifting equipment used is rated to handle <br />the load before lifting. <br />♦ Lift tank using ALL lift lugs provided on the tank. <br />60°-90° <br />DO NOT <br />♦ Drop tank as this could damage the tank. <br />♦ Use chains or cables around tanks, as this <br />damage tank. <br />♦ Allow fittings, collars, manways, reservoirs, <br />accessory to contact ground during rotation. <br />♦ Allow metal lift hardware to contact the tank. <br />could <br />or any <br />a. <br />DO NOT stand on or under tank while tank is being <br />lifted. This could result in personal injury or death. <br />FOR ROTATED TANKS <br />♦ Lift with slings (minimum 4" wide nylon or polyester) <br />♦ Use minimum of 2 slings. <br />♦ Use spreader bar to separate slings per this table. BED AND BACKFILL <br />The use of approved backfill material is critical to long <br />term tank performance. Failure to use approved <br />backfill may result in tank failure. <br />LIIG <br />♦ Replace all excavated native soil with approved backfill <br />of proper size and gradation. Use backfill which meets <br />ASTM C-33 for quality and soundness. See approved <br />materials, below. <br />♦ Require your backfill supplier to certify that the backfill <br />meets this specification. <br />♦ Keep backfill dry and free of ice in freezing conditions. <br />♦ Use only approved backfills. <br />FIGURE 2 <br />1!040m, INOWLIA, <br />
