For All Tests:
00
♦ Install air gauge at the fitting where the air pressure hose
is connected to the primary tank.
♦ I nstall a second gauge in some other primary tank fitting
to use as a check against the first primary tank gauge
to insure that the tank is not over pressurized.
♦ Install a third gauge connected to the annular space
at the manifold assembly.
♦ Use a maximum 15 psi air gauge with 1/ or'/2 Ib. in-
crements.
♦ A contractor supplied pressure relief valve must be con-
nected to the primary tank for additional protection. The
relief valve should be sized and set to prevent the tank
from being pressurized in excess of the maximum al-
lowed test pressure.
DO NOT
♦ Lift or hoist a tank under pressure. This could result in
personal injury.
CAUTION
DO NOT Connect the air supply directly to the an-
nular space monitoring fitting or tank damage will
result.
Outer Wall Test
PRESSURIZING TANK
Step 1
Close manifold valve between primary tank and
annular space (see figure 3).
Step 2
Pressurize primary tank to 5 psi maximum.
Step 3
Use a pressure relief valve.
CAUTION
Do not connect the air supply directly to the
annular space monitoring fitting or tank damage
will result.
Air supply
valve open
FIGURE 3
Manifold
= to air supply valve
Closed
-Air gauge
I Air gauge
Manifold systei
(supplied with tan
Annular space fitting or Reservoir
REMOVE AIR SUPPLY
Step 1
Close the air supply valve to the primary tank.
Step 2
Disconnect the air supply (see figure 4).
PRESSURIZE ANNULAR SPACE
Step 1
Open the manifold valve in order to pressurize the tank
annular space (see figure 4).
Step 2
Pressure in primary tank may drop slightly.
FIGURE 4
Air supply —To air supply Manifold
valve dosed (disconnected) valve open
Air gauge
Air gauge
Manifold system
(suppled vnlh tank)
Annular space fitting or Reservoir
VISUAL AIR/SOAP TEST
Step 1
Monitor the pressure readings for at least 30 minutes.
Step 2
At the same time, cover tank outer surface with soap
solution (see Visual Air/Soap Test).
Step 3
Carefully inspect for leaks as indicated by bubbles.
Inner Wall Test
Step 1
Close manifold valve to annular space.
Step 2
Open air supply valve to vent primary tank.
Step 3
Maintain 5 psi pressure on the annular space.
Step 4
Monitor air gauge on tank for another 30 minutes, but
not more than 60 minutes.
After successfully completing air test:
Step 1
Release pressure.
Step 2
Disconnect and remove air manifold fittings, hose and valve.
