MAY-21-96 16:38 FROM:WESSON NCR
I0:510603760I
• Activation of the waste oil underground storage tank's secondary containment
monitoring device, indicating that primary containment is leaking and/or that a fluid
has entered the secondary containment.
• A drop in the level of the used oil in the waste oil underground storage tank_
As a check on the waste oil underground storage tank, the Service Manager for each store
shall inspect the monitoring device on a daily basis and record the results in the monitoring
log. The tank level will also be measured upon opening and before closing each day.
Please see the Pep Boys Underground Storage Tank Monitoring Plan for more details
regarding monitoring of the waste oil underground storage tank. If the monitoring device
is not operational or there has been a drop in the tank level, the Service Manager must
contact the Emergency Coordinator and he/she shall implement this plan immediately.
2.2 Initial Response by Employee Discovering Release
If either a spill has occurred or the waste oil underground storage monitoring device has
been activated or there has been a sudden drop in level of oil in the tank, the employee
discovering the release will immediately report it to the Primary Emergency Coordinator,
as designated on the attached Facility Emergency Notification List, Table 1. In the
absence of the Primary Emergency Coordinator, the Secondary Emergency Coordinator
must be notified. The names, addresses, and phone numbers(home and work) of both the
Primary and Secondary Emergency Coordinators are provided on Table 1. The
Emergency Coordinator will direct the efforts to control and clean up the release.
2.3 Response Preparation
2.3.1 Personal Protective Equipment
The following personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used when responding to a
spill;
• Safety Glasses
• Protective Gloves
• Protective Coveralls
This equipment is stored in toolroom as shown on Figure 1.
After donning the proper response equipment, personnel responding to a spill should then
familiarize themselves with the area impacted and secure the area from the public, as
directed by the Emergency Coordinator.
PEP_BOYS.DOC 2 snore
