MAY-21-96 16:39 FROM:WESTON NCA IO:5106037901 <br /> 2.3.2 Spill Response Equipment <br /> A spill kit is kept in the too] room of each Pep Boys store, immediately adjacent to the <br /> waste oil tank and hazardous waste accumulation areas. Figure 1 shows the location of <br /> the spill kit. The spill kit contains the following equipment: <br /> • Absorbent Socks and Pillows <br /> • Temporary Disposal Bags and Ties <br /> • Overpack Drum <br /> • A Copy of tris Contingency and Emergency Response Plan <br /> The spill kit is for emergency use and is not to be used for routine oil drips in the auto <br /> repair bays. <br /> The spill kit and the personal protective gear will be inspected daily to insure that all <br /> supplies are available for immediate use. This inspection will be performed by the Service <br /> Manager at the same time the tank and its level are inspected. Any spill supplies or <br /> personal protective equipment that need replaced will be ordered at this time. Please see <br /> the Pep Boys Underground Storage Tank Monitoring Plan for more details regarding <br /> inspection of the spill kit. <br /> The Pep Boys store is also equipped with the following equipment which may be utilized <br /> in the event of a hazardous materiaWwaste release: <br /> • An emergency alarm system. <br /> • A telephone/intercom network which may be used to summon assistance from local <br /> police and fire department and emergency teams are listed in Table 1. <br /> Telephones/intercoms are located throughout the store. Figure 1 shows the locations <br /> of the telephone/intercoms. <br /> • Fire fighting equipment, including fire sprinklers and fire extinguishers. The locations <br /> of fire extinguishers are shown on Figure 1. <br /> 2.4 Stepping the Release <br /> 2.4.1 Surface Spills <br /> The employee discovering a surface spill should first assist any injured persons, as <br /> required, dialing 911 for local ambulance/paramedics if necessary. When speaking to the <br /> emergency attendant on 911, speak slowly and clearly. The discovering employee will be <br /> asked to provide the following information: <br /> • Name and address of Pep Boys Store. <br /> • Type of Emergency that has occurred. <br /> PF.P_BOYS.DOC 3 5120/96 <br />
