systems, lung function, and skin examination. Laboratory testing will include complete blood
count and applicable kidney and liver function tests and any other procedures as deemed
necessary by the physician.
In addition to the physical examination prior to performing fieldwork, onsite employee
surveillance is standard Geofon procedure and includes heat stress monitoring and prevention,
airborne contaminant monitoring, and hearing conservation measures.
3.7 EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND CONTINGENCY PLAN
The Emergency Response and Contingency plan, as developed under the requirements of
29 CFR 1910.120 and CCR, Title 8, Section 5192, applies to "onsite emergency responses" only.
The Site Safety and Health Plan shall be maintained onsite and workers shall be familiar with the
contents to assure an adequate response. Local fire, police, rescue authorities and nearby
medical facilities that will be utilized for emergency treatment will be notified of upcoming
activities and to assure this plan's compatibility with the local emergency response/contingency
plan.
Situations may occur, although considered unlikely, that require an emergency response
action. Such situations include a sudden release of hazardous vapors or combustible gases
during excavation or material handling operations, a personal injury accident, an explosion or
fire occurring during field operations, a heavy equipment or vehicle accident, or a heat stress
related injury.
Several warning systems may be utilized to notify personnel of an incident, depending on
the work site conditions or the emergency involved. Those systems may include verbal
communications, verbal communications assisted by a bull hom, verbal communications assisted
by a site PA, radio communications, vehicle horns, and portable hand-held compressed gas
horns.
17
