access to records as outlined in OSHA Noise Standard 1910.95 and CCR, Title 8, Section 5095
- shall be followed.
3.25 RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM
Level D PPE with a half-face respirator has been selected by Geofon for all work to be
performed inside the exclusion zone. Respirators will be equipped with particulate
HEPA/organic vapor cartridges. This selection was based on an evaluation of the potential
respiratory hazards to which workers may be exposed by Geofon's CIH.
Respirators use maintenance and care, storage, training and fit testing, and medical
requirements are all discussed in detail in Geofon's Corporate Health and Safety Program
document.
3.25.1 Hazard Communication Program
The SSHO will evaluate the potential hazards of chemicals that may be found on site.
The hazard determination shall be conducted using the Hazard Determination Guidelines, which
are available to employees upon request. Even though OSHA has not required any specific
methods for determining hazards, they have set forth general criteria, which must be included in
the manufacturer's procedures for evaluation of the chemicals.
OSHA has designated a "floor" of over 600 substances, which are specified as hazardous
in all situations. These substances include chemicals regulated by OSHA under 29 CFR, Part
1910, Subpart Z, and those listed in the American Conference of governmental Industrial
Hygienists Threshold Limit Value Guidelines. In addition, chemicals determined by the
National Toxicology Program (NTP), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC),
and OSHA to be carcinogenic will be considered hazardous.
34
