Under the hazard determination guidelines, evaluations are made for single chemicals,
tested mixtures and untested mixtures. Evaluation for criteria for each group is essentially the
same, i.e., they are categorized into PHYSICAL and HEALTH hazards.
PHYSICAL hazards include:
1. Explosive 6. Oxidizer
2. Flammable 7. Pyrophoric
3. Combustible Liquid 8. Unstable (reactive)
4. Compressed Gas 9. Water Reactive
5. Organic Peroxide
HEALTH hazards include:
1. Carcinogen 4. Irritant
2. Corrosive 5. Sensitizer
3. Toxic 6. Target organ effects
A"hazardous chemical' is any chemical, which is a physical and/or health hazard.
3.26 MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS
The hazard communication regulation requires that a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
be available on all hazardous chemicals in the work place
3.26.1 Labels and Other Forms of Warnin¢
Labels may be any written, printed, or graphic materials displayed on and affixed to
containers of hazardous chemicals.
