Levels of Protection: The Safety and Health Manager shall establish appropriate levels of <br /> protection for each work activity based on review of historical site information, existing data an <br /> evaluation of the potential for exposure (inhalation, dermal, ingestion, and injection) during each <br /> task; past air monitoring results, and a continuing safety and health monitoring program. The <br /> Safety and Health Manager shall also establish action levels for upgrade or downgrade in levels of <br /> PPE from the following specified minimum levels of protection. Protocols and teh <br /> communication network for changing the level of protection shall be described in the SSHP. The <br /> PPE reassessment protocol shall address air monitoring results, potential for exposure, changes in <br /> site conditions, work phases,job tasks, weather, temperature extremes, individual medical <br /> considerations, etc. <br /> Components of Levels of Protection: The following items constitute minimum protective <br /> clothing and equipment ensembles to be utilized during this project: <br /> a. Protective Clothing Coveralls: - Not Required <br /> b. Boots: The Contractor shall provide work boots with non-skid soles, for all <br /> workers. The Contractor shall ensure that the boots which come in contact with <br /> contaminated material are properly cleaned, decontaminated and bagged, prior to <br /> removal from containment area. <br /> • For "wet work" heavy duty non-skid rubber boots with steel toes and <br /> shank shall be worn. <br /> C. Respiratory Protection: -Not Required <br /> EXPOSURE MONITORING/AIR SAMPLING PROGRAM: <br /> Hazardous substances which could require monitoring have been previously identified in this Site <br /> Safety & Health Plan. <br /> 1. Air monitoring shall be performed as needed. Monitoring may include the following: <br /> • Gas Tester for % LEL and % Oxygen <br /> Monitoring shall be performed in all work zones (exclusion, contamination reduction and <br /> support), in confined spaces, and monitoring at site boundaries. <br /> All data will be tabulated and indicate the sample date, sample number(ID), type of equipment <br /> and ID, time of sampling, employee name/area, specific work area, work operation, respiratory <br /> protection, engineering controls, analyte(s) and result(s). <br /> Site Safety & Health Plan Rev./1.0 <br />
