SPILL RESPONSE ACTIONS: <br /> If a spill occurs, the following actions shall be taken by the contractor. <br /> a. Notification: <br /> Notify the City of Manteca & San Joaquin County Fire Prevention Bureau immediately in the <br /> event of a spill into the storm sewer or bay. <br /> b. Control Measures: <br /> Take immediate measures to control and contain the spill within the city boundaries. This <br /> shall include the following actions: <br /> - Keep unnecessary people away; isolate hazardous area and deny entry. <br /> - Do not allow anyone to touch spilled material. <br /> - Stay upwind; keep out of low areas. <br /> - Allow no flares, smoking or flames in hazard area. <br /> - Keep combustibles away from the spilled material. <br /> - Use water spray to reduce vapors, as needed. <br /> - Notify the SHM or Contractor Immediately. <br /> C. Site Assessment: <br /> The SSM shall perform any additional monitoring to characterize the spill. <br /> All personnel involved in spill clean-up shall be at Level D personal protection unless otherwise <br /> determined by the Site Safety Manager/ Certified Industrial Hygienist. <br /> d. Control Implementation. General spill control actions the Contractor shall implement are as <br /> follows: <br /> i. Put on all protective equipment before touching anything relating to the spill. <br /> ii. Mobilize all spill control equipment to spill area. <br /> - Small dry spills: <br /> Wet possible contaminated materials first prior to cleaning up. HEPA <br /> vacuum if available. Shovel contaminated materials into DOT drums and <br /> cover or seal; label container as to suspected contents and dispose of <br /> properly as soon as possible. <br /> Site Safety & Health Plan Rev./2.0 July 28, 1999 <br />
